"Mercedes-Benz Concept MLC Breaks Cover Before The Beijing Auto Show



Two days ago we were informing you about the possibility of a Mercedes-Benz MLC concept car to debut at the upcoming 2014 New York Auto Show. We then told you to take it all in with a pinch of salt, as nothing was officially confirmed at the time.

Well, as it happens, our insider was only half right about the information, since the Mercedes-Benz Concept MLC just broke cover earlier today and we have to give you a “mea culpa”, since the car will actually be revealed in China as opposed to the US.

The Beijing International Automotive Exhibition is therefore the venue where the BMW X6-fighter from Mercedes-Benz will first meet the spotlight in concept form, sporting the official name of "Concept Coupe SUV".

From the information gathered until now, it seems that the Mercedes-Benz MLC will use the underpinnings of the W166/X166 platforms underneath the current M-Class and GL-Class, but a distinct possibility for it to be based on the upcoming MHA (Modular High Architecture) platform is not entirely out of the question either.

Even though it is still currently just a concept car, the model you see above is about 95 percent identical to how the production version will look when it hits the showrooms in 2015.

Speaking of which, the MLC will be manufactured alongside the M-Class, GL-Class and now the C-Class W205 in the Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Expect the production version to only come with six and eight-cylinder engines when it goes on sale, with a 63 AMG version to complete the lineup in due time. More information about the concept car should arrive in the upcoming hours, after the sluggish Mercedes-Benz marketing machine gets into motion".
